Autumn on Etna

Our hike will begin from the Cratere Silvestri Inferiore, following the trail named after the crater itself. For the first part of the route, we will walk over the 2001 lava flow; along this stretch, we will have a breathtaking panorama before us. If visibility is excellent, we will be able to see from the southeastern Sicilian coast to the northern Calabrian coast. The landscape before us will shift from the black of the lava flows to the green of the pines, painted with the colors of autumn. Our landmarks along the way will be Monte Nero, Monte Gemmellaro, and the Monte Grosso crater, and shortly after, we will reach our destination: Monte Concilio. The final stretch of the route is particularly fascinating from a geological perspective.

Expenses not included: travel to and from the meeting point and packed lunch.

Elevation gain: approximately 150 meters ascent and 700 meters descent.
Travel: own car.
Difficulty: challenging.
Required equipment: hiking clothing, small backpack, hiking boots, trekking poles, hat, sunscreen, sweater, flashlight, waterproof jacket, and 2 liters of water.
