San Martino at Cava Prainito - SR

November leads us into the heart of autumn, a wonderful season for hiking in the Iblei canyons. Cava Prainito offers a blend of historical, natural, geological, and wildlife beauty. Located just a few kilometers from Rosolini, this canyon takes its name from the river that flows through it. Today's hike, a charming and easily accessible loop, will take us to places where nature, nestled within its lush flora, holds remnants of life dating back to the Early Bronze Age. Caves, a water mill, and crystal-clear pools will accompany us throughout the day.
Once we emerge from the canyon, our destination will be the beautiful Giasira winery. Guided through the estate, we will walk first through vineyards and orange groves, and finally, we will head into the cellar. "At San Martino, every must becomes wine," so what better way to celebrate than with an excellent tasting? A light lunch will accompany the tasting of five Giasira wine labels. After this refreshing break, we will take a short path back to our starting point to conclude the excursion.
Notes on the Winery: “GIASIRA”, Azienda Agricola Giovanni Boroli, spans approximately 90 hectares at an altitude between 160 and 220 meters above sea level in the Ritillini district, in the municipality of Rosolini, straddling the provinces of Siracusa and Ragusa. The area is of particular landscape interest, crossed by the Prainito river, or Cava Paradiso, which flows between high rocky walls within the estate. The organic-certified farm is traditionally dedicated to the production of extra virgin olive oil, almonds, carob, and citrus fruits.

Expenses not included: travel to and from the meeting point.

Loop trail: approx. 3 hours of walking, on historic mule tracks (regie trazzere), and both marked and unmarked paths.
Travel: own car.
Difficulty: easy.
Required equipment: trekking clothing, small backpack, k-way, hiking boots, waterproof jacket, hat, 1.5 liters of water.
