The long Iblei trek

A hike designed for those who love long walks and wish to discover a different side of a well-known territory. Moving away from the more common paths, we will take the time to explore less-frequented corners, following a longer and more complex itinerary where the joy of discovery meets the satisfaction of a full day on the trail.

We will follow the San Leonardo stream until we reach the Cava della Misericordia. Here, nature is slowly reclaiming spaces once inhabited by man, covering the remains of ancient mills where the farmers of the plateau used to go to grind their wheat.

We will then reach the Romitorio, near which we will visit the evocative Grotta dei Giganti. In the afternoon, we will resume our journey, climbing up the canyon and continuing towards contrada Celone, home to an important complex of Byzantine-era hypogeum tombs.

A loop trail that weaves together nature, history, and archaeology, dedicated to those who want to treat themselves to a long trek in the Iblei territory.
