On Etna: Between Cherry Orchards and Lava Flows

A journey through nature, history, and authentic flavors.
We will hike a loop of approximately 12 km on the northeastern slope of Etna, starting from Magazzeni (1080 m), where the lava flow that threatened Sant’Alfio came to a halt in 1928. We will reach the eruptive vents of Fossa Santoro, which were responsible for the destruction of Mascali, and traverse Contrada Cerrita before climbing back through the turkey oak forest toward our starting point. At the end of the trail, we will be guests at the “Le Delizie dell’Etna” farm, located on their property in Contrada Ripa della Naca, where Mr. Tomarchio will welcome us with a taste of his excellent cherries. Those interested will also have the opportunity to purchase them directly on-site.
We will also have our lunch break here: please bring your own packed lunch.

Participation fee: € 25,00

• Includes guide service, accident insurance, and organization.

Expenses not included: Travel to and from the meeting point, packed lunch.

Logistical details:

• Meeting point: Sunday, July 6, at 09:30 AM at the parking lot in front of the Chiesa Sant’Andrea Apostolo - Milo. Google Maps Link
• End of excursion: 5:30 PM (same location).
• Loop trail: Forest track and hiking path, both marked and unmarked.
• Travel: Use of own car.
• Lunch: Packed lunch.
• Difficulty: Moderate.

• Hiking clothing
• Small backpack
• Hiking boots
• Hat and sunscreen
• Waterproof jacket
• 2 liters of water
