Coast to Ragusa Trail - Stage 1 – Donnalucata → Scicli

This trail winds through the most evocative spots of the Iblei, blending history, natural landscapes, and ancient traditions. Each stage leads us from one historic town to the next, starting from the sea and gently climbing through valleys, woodlands, and old mule tracks until we finally reach the city of Ragusa. It is a journey that combines trekking, culture, and spectacular views, perfect for those who love discovering the authentic Sicilia one step at a time.
The trail begins in the stunning seaside town of Donnalucata, an ancient port and trading hub of the Contea di Modica. According to Arab tradition, the area was called Marsa Sikla, meaning “Port of Scicli,” while Ayn al-Awqat, or “Spring of Prayers,” referred to the small springs where the local inhabitants used to pray. The route takes us along the right side of the Torrente di Modica, passing by the Santuario delle Milizie, Contrada Bommacchia, and Contrada Lincino, before descending alongside the Ospedale Busacca to reach the historic center of Scicli, where we will conclude the stage with a visit to the city.

Expenses not included:
Travel to and from the meeting point.

Logistical details:

• Route: approximately 5 hours, road, mule track, and marked trail
• Travel: Use of private cars.
• Lunch: Packed lunch.
• Difficulty: Moderate.

• Layered trekking clothing

• Backpack and trekking boots
• Windbreaker
• 1.5 liters of water
