Ferragosto Splashing Around: Waterfalls, Rivers, and Pools

Ferragosto is all about being together and having fun. This won't be just any Ferragosto; we're skipping the stress and the crowds to celebrate by getting WET!! These days include three excursions where we'll hike through rivers and take a dip whenever we feel like it. The experience at this time of year is truly unique and never fails to captivate. These three Sicilian valleys are cherished for their undeniable charm and natural beauty, for the magnificent interplay of water and rock, and for their historical and archaeological significance, evidenced by ancient Siculan and Byzantine settlements and necropolises. On Sunday, we'll be at Cavagrande del Cassibile, one of the most spectacular canyons in Sicily; on Monday, at Pantalica and the Calcinara stream, a blend of water, geology, and archaeology; and on Tuesday, for Ferragosto, at the Putrisino stream, in the "Amazon" of the Iblei. Our base for these three days is Palazzolo Acreide, a Baroque city in the Val di Noto and a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2002. It is listed among the most beautiful villages in Italy, making it the perfect destination for those wishing to immerse themselves in this traditional, quintessential town of south-eastern Sicily. For the evening of Ferragosto, we'll enjoy a traditional performance by the storyteller Peppino di Monterosso Almo. This local artist will recount historical tales, both ancient and recent, of Sicily using his classic illustrated placards.

Other expenses: € 170.00. These expenses include: half-board service in a B&B and restaurant with double or triple room accommodation, and a Sicilian evening with folk music.
Costs do not include: travel expenses to and from the meeting point, packed lunches for all days, and any extra expenses not specified. Single room supplement: € 30.00.

Required equipment: trekking clothing, waterproof backpack, hiking boots, hat, flashlight, closed-toe water shoes; for those sensitive to cold water, we recommend bringing a wetsuit, swimsuit, 1.5 liters of water, and personal toiletries.
