Steps under the Moon among the Ancient Ice Houses of Monte Arcibessi

This night walk will be constantly brightened by the soft, natural light of the full moon near Monte Arcibessi (908 meters above sea level), our natural balcony where we can look out and admire the 360° panorama overlooking South-Eastern Sicily. Along our route, we will visit the ancient neviere (ice houses) located above Chiaramonte, around the mountain, which is the highest peak in the province of Ragusa and the second highest in the Iblei, after Monte Lauro. The sturdy masonry structures still survive in good condition. We will visit several ice houses, including the ancient Arcibessi neviera known as la lupa and the one belonging to the Macellai.

The fee does not include: fuel expenses to reach the meeting point and for the return journey.

Difficulty: moderate
Loop route: approx. 4 hours of walking – forest track, marked trail.
Required equipment: trekking clothing, small backpack, k-way (rain jacket), hiking boots, sweater, waterproof jacket, flashlight, 1.5 liters of water.
