2nd Stage #Ibleiround: San Giacomo - Palazzolo Acreide

We are thrilled by the overwhelming response to our first #IBLEIROUND, and for this reason, we are pleased to announce that we will dedicate two days to this event, Saturday the 26th and Sunday the 27th, with the option to choose.
As true Siculi who love our land, and in our continuous wandering through the beloved Iblei countryside, we have conceived and structured a grand loop trail across the Iblei: #ibleiround.
It will be the ideal journey to savor and enjoy first the gentle hills of the Iblei and then the small villages that populate these marvelous landscapes. In the soul of a regular hiker, “knowledge” leads to internal and external growth: thus, the places themselves help in this constant development. On this journey, we will encounter: history, culture, traditions, nature, crafts, and wisdom… but above all, we will “live” the path. Living the journey & sharing the passion.
The trail will take place in 5 stages, starting from the Iblean capital, Ragusa, in January and concluding back in Ragusa in May.
2nd Stage: San Giacomo – Palazzolo Acreide
Starting from the San Giacomo Bellocozzo district, a hamlet of Ragusa, located at an altitude of about 500 m, today's linear route will take us through the valley, crossing carob and olive groves, but above all, green expanses of fields dedicated to forage crops. This walk will introduce us to the Iblei countryside; the valley is “naturally” nestled between the two main rivers of the area: Irminio and Tellaro. Akrai (Palazzolo Acreide) was the first colony of Siracusa. Founded in 663 BC, it was built on a strategic, hard-to-reach point, primarily to watch over the surrounding territories. This magnificent place, at an altitude of about 750 m, will be our destination today.
Highlight: Hiking as a sport, hiking as knowledge.

Itinerary: trails, forest tracks, old mule tracks (trazzere), and Iblei countryside.
Travel: own car.
Difficulty: challenging.
Required equipment: trekking clothing, small backpack, hiking boots, trekking poles, hat, sunscreen, sweater, flashlight, waterproof jacket, and 1.5 liters of water.
N.B. The excursion will be conducted in accordance with current Covid-19 regulations. There is a form to fill out and sign; you can send it via email or bring a hard copy before we start the excursion.
