Trekking from Buscemi to Cassaro (SR)

This trail connects the towns of Cassaro and Buscemi through the Valle dell'Anapo, Fosso Nocilla, and the Valle dei Mulini, passing by the small Byzantine church known as Santo Pietro. It is an area of remarkable natural beauty. Amidst the vegetation—typical of the cave (canyons), riverine, and wetland areas at the bottom, and characterized by Mediterranean scrub in the higher sections—thyme reigns supreme. Since ancient times, it has provided precious pasture for bees, giving rise to the famous honey of the Iblei. This trail is dedicated to Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati (1901-1925), a young man who loved nature and the mountains in particular, viewing them as a training ground to strengthen the body and, above all, to elevate the spirit.

Route: 6 hours of walking including breaks – royal sheep tracks (regie trazzere), mule tracks, marked trails, and fords.
Required equipment: trekking clothing, small backpack, k-way (rain jacket), hiking boots, waterproof jacket, hat, sweater, 1.5 liters of water.
