Trazzera delle Dagale Longhe and Ilice di Carrinu - Etna

On New Year's Day, we’ll take our first steps of the year along an ancient 'trazzera' (mule track) once used by the people of Zafferana to lead their livestock to higher, cooler pastures and to reach the cultivated fields around Piano Bello. We will encounter numerous dry-stone terraces and remnants of abandoned vineyards, dense forests of holm oaks, downy oaks, and chestnut trees, as well as the ruins of old 'palmenti' (traditional wine presses). We will reach a true monument of nature: the Ilice di Carrinu, an 800-year-old holm oak, a silent witness to life on Etna. In this setting, we will pause before the breathtaking beauty of this ancient tree to enjoy lunch and share a toast, wishing each other a hopeful and peaceful 2021.

Fee: € 20.00 – Includes guide services, RCT insurance, and excursion organization. In the presence of snow, we will use snowshoes. The daily rental cost for snowshoes and poles is € 5.00.

End of excursion: 4:30 PM. Same location as the departure.
Costs do not include: Round-trip travel expenses to reach the meeting point.
Lunch: Packed lunch.
Challenging loop route: Includes both marked and unmarked trails.
Walking time: 6 hours, including breaks.
Maximum number of participants: 20.
Required equipment: Winter trekking clothing, hiking boots, wool hat, gloves, trekking poles, raincoat (k-way), sweater, winter waterproof jacket, 1.5 liters of water.

The excursion may be subject to changes due to unpredictable natural events; in such cases, an alternative route will be taken if possible.
