Above Comiso - From Castiglione to Canicarao - RG

The Sicilian “May” is, in many ways, the prelude to the harvest of oat and wheat fields. This is why we have chosen the Iblei hills, historic sites of agricultural and commercial significance. The excursion will start from the fascinating archaeological site of Castiglione, founded in the 7th century B.C. by Siculi settlements, and later coming under Greek influence. Today, it is left to its own devices, yet it stands on a wonderful strategic and natural vantage point: it will be our “good morning to the trail.” We will descend along the hills overlooking Comiso, passing by the Pagoda della Pace, with the Canicarao woods as our destination. The experience of this wonderful walk will be framed by the sweet view over the entire plain, which on clear, bright days, without haze, allows the gaze to reach as far as Licata. The return to the starting point will treat us to passages by ancient manor farmhouses, where history tells of the toil of man for a “crust of bread.” We will experience the rest together as we walk…….

Fee: € 10.00 - Includes guide services, RCT insurance, and excursion organization.
Expenses do not include: packed lunch and fuel costs to reach the meeting point.
Meeting point: Sunday, May 2nd, meeting at 09:00 at the Decathlon parking lot.

Loop route: approximately 6 hours of walking; dirt roads, fords, marked and unmarked trails.
Travel: own car.
Difficulty: challenging.
Required equipment: trekking clothing, k-way, small backpack, hiking boots, hat, waterproof jacket, and 2.0 liters of water.
