Along the Irminio River - From Ragusa Ibla to Cozzo d'Arancio

May 01, 2021
A day spent walking along the Irminio Valley, starting from Piazza di San Giorgio, the heart of the Baroque in Ragusa Ibla, and finishing near Contrada Cozzo d’Arancio. For some time now, we have been nurturing the idea of taking you through this wonderful valley of the Irminio from Ibla to its mouth; it takes 2 days to complete the entire route, and today we will ev290-1.jpgtackle the first stage. Along the way, you will find traditional structures related to water flow, especially various canals of different sizes where humans have harnessed this precious resource, essential for both livestock and crops. We will set off from Ragusa Ibla, reach the Irminio river near the iron bridge below Ibla, and from there, we will walk along both banks, crossing the river a few times—always, of course, in complete safety. We have designed this route ourselves to highlight the most interesting and accessible points, drawn by its sheer beauty. We will conclude our day near Contrada Cozzo d’Arancio. How will we get back to the starting point? We’ll take care of that.
