Cava Serre Loop - RG

Our route will wind through Cava Serre and Cava Volpe. The area is partially covered by reforestation efforts featuring various conifers, but a large portion is still covered by natural vegetation consisting of numerous species. Along the way, we may encounter foxes and wild rabbits, as well as various bird species such as hooded crows, blackbirds, buzzards, and partridges, all thanks to the water that flows year-round in both streams. Speaking of water, we will have a pleasant stop for a packed lunch along the stream. Other unique features of the route include the remains of long-abandoned dwellings, some of which were built directly into the rock. In the past, much of these valleys, particularly the valley floor, was cultivated and inhabited, and these places still feature domestic trees such as walnut, pomegranate, olive, almond, and carob. Various caves flow into Cava Volpe; the most interesting of these is Cava Serre, which descends to the right of the church of S. Rosalia and flows into the Irminio river.

Loop trail with stream crossings: approximately 6 hours of walking.
Travel: own car.
Difficulty: challenging.
Required equipment: trekking clothing, k-way (rain jacket), small backpack, hiking boots, hat, waterproof jacket, sweater, and 1.5 liters of water.
