Vendicari: Wildlife, history, and the sea. (SR)

MARCH 08, 2020
The Riserva naturale orientata Oasi Faunistica di Vendicari is a protected natural area officially established in 1984. It is a site of significant historical, cultural, and natural interest.
The origins, history, and traces found in this place date back to the time of the Greeks. Historical findings and artifacts used for fish processing date back to that very period. This land has been walked by the Byzantines and the Normans, through a succession of events. Fishing was the hub and the common thread until the last century; this activity provided space, growth, and sustenance for the local population. We will be completely immersed in a corner of wonders. We will have the opportunity to appreciate the typical Mediterranean flora and fauna. After a pleasant and delightful lunch break on the beautiful and renowned Calamosche beach, we will resume our walk towards the Pantano Grande, passing by several observation points often used for bird watching. This place will be perfect to conclude a splendid day. Finally, after enjoying the landscape, we will retrace a short stretch to return to the starting point.
