Val d'Ippari - Between Oranges and Aleppo Pines (RG)

Our footsteps will wander through the fantastic area of the Pino d’Aleppo Reserve, located in the Val d’Ippari near Vittoria. It is a wonderful place where human hands have diligently transformed and enhanced the local resources. Our trails follow the rhythm of the four seasons, with a loop route that weaves together nature, woodland, and citrus groves—the signature fruit of this season and the area we are about to explore. This typical winter fruit, with its warm orange hue and sweet scent, will accompany us for much of today’s hike... with a few tastings along the way! We will set off from contrada Buffa, near the houses that share the name of the district. The walk will wind through a large part of the reserve, which covers 3,000 hectares in the final stretch of the Vittoria valley. Trails and old mule tracks will lead us to the highest point of our hike, Poggio Musenna. As we pass, we will be enveloped by the scents of wild plants like thyme, rosemary, juniper, and oregano. After our break, the return leg will feature a historic section passing through the “Buffarella” houses, followed by the orange groves that serve as the central theme of our nature trail, where the scents and flavors will bid us a fond farewell.

Expenses do not include: travel to and from the meeting point.

Loop route: approx. 5 hours of walking. Forest track, mule track, marked trail.
Travel: own car.
Difficulty: medium – Suitable for regular hikers.
Required equipment: winter trekking clothing, rain jacket (k-way), small backpack, hiking boots, windbreaker/waterproof jacket, cap, 1.5 liters of water.
