A journey to discover Pantalica: Palazzolo – Cassaro
March 29, 2020
Every place has its own track, its own trail, its own path that defines it; passion does the rest! This journey will unfold largely along the old “Ciccio Pecora” railway line, starting from Palazzolo to reach our final destination, Pantalica. It is a walk to discover the wonderful valley where the Anapo river flows, a place where the Iblei reveal landscapes rich in history, traditions, and above all, nature! The choice of this route, almost inevitable, is dictated by the fact that it was the first railway section to be built between 1915 and 1923, but also the last to be dismantled in 1956. The history of the “Ciccio Pecora” began and ended right here.
The route will be divided into three stages, each with distinct characteristics of the area. The spring season will offer the typical scents and colors of the season; sweet sensory “cuddles”…
The stages will be as follows:
1st Stage: Palazzolo - Cassaro
2nd Stage: Cassaro – Sella di Filiporto
3rd Stage: Sella di Filiporto – Pantalica Station (Loop trail to discover the wonders of Pantalica)
(You may choose to participate in individual stages or the entire route).
29.03.2020: Palazzolo – Cassaro
After a short walk through the town to discover the splendid Palazzolo, we will head onto a trail, immersing ourselves completely in the valley below. The paths and the magnificent royal mule tracks (regie trazzere) will be our way to reach the center of Cassaro.
