Monte Calanna and Valle del Bove - Etna

On New Year's Eve, we will hike up the path of the 1993 lava flow in reverse, following Trail No. 742 towards Monte Calanna. Between lava flows, stretches of woodland, and broom bushes, we will reach Monte Calanna, one of the oldest craters on Etna and the "gateway" to the Valle del Bove. We will cover a short stretch across lava flows before taking the return path back to our starting point.

Fee: € 20.00 – Includes guide services, RCT insurance, and excursion organization. In the presence of snow, we will hike using snowshoes. The daily rental cost for snowshoes and poles is € 5.00.
Meeting point: Thursday, December 31st at 09:00 AM in the parking lot in front of the municipal park of Zafferana Etnea. Click the link below for the Google location.

End of excursion: 04:00 PM. Same as the starting location.
Costs do not include: round-trip travel expenses to reach the meeting point.
Lunch: packed lunch
Challenging loop trail: marked and unmarked paths.
Walking hours: 7, including breaks.
Max number of participants: 20
Required equipment: winter trekking clothing, hiking boots, wool hat, gloves, trekking poles, rain jacket (k-way), sweater, winter waterproof jacket, 1.5 liters of water.

Upon registration, we will send you an email with two attachments regarding Covid-19 information, including a Word file (1 page) that you must fill out and sign, to be handed in as a hard copy before the start of the excursion.
The excursion may be subject to changes due to unpredictable natural events; in such cases, an alternative route will be taken if possible.
