Summit Craters - Etna North

The Summit Craters represent the most coveted destination for any hiker on Etna, offering those who reach them one of the most evocative natural spectacles in Europe. The Etna landscape provides the opportunity to gaze out over both the Ionian and Tyrrhenian coasts, the mountains of Aspromonte, the Eolie islands, and a vast expanse of Sicily. Our adventure begins as we ascend from Piano Provenzana (1810 m), trekking over sandy terrain and then along a track, passing near the Volcanological Observatory, Pizzi Deniri (2910 m), Punta Lucia, and finally reaching our goal: the Summit Craters. After taking the time to admire this unique natural wonder, we will begin our descent through sandy gullies, returning via a trail back to Piano Provenzana.

Fee: € 40.00 – Includes guide service and RCT insurance. The final 300-meter ascent will be accompanied by an alpine/volcanological guide.
(If safety conditions prevent us from reaching the Summit Craters and we do not utilize the Volcanological Guide, the cost will be reduced by € 20.00).

End of excursion: 18:00 at Piano Provenzana (Etna).
Travel: own car.
Loop route: track, marked and unmarked trails.
Elevation gain: 1550 m ascent and equal descent.
Difficulty: challenging.
Lunch: packed lunch.
Maximum number of participants: 15
Required equipment: trekking clothing, backpack, hiking boots, trekking poles, hat, sunscreen, sweater, waterproof jacket, 2.5 liters of water.
N.B. Upon registration for the excursion, we will send you an email with two attachments: one containing the program and the other detailing the safety regulations to be followed during the excursion due to Covid-19. The excursion may be subject to changes due to unpredictable natural events; in such cases, an alternative route will be taken if possible.
