Monte Zoccolaro - Etna

South/East side of Etna, near Contrada Cassaro: we will begin our walk by following the Sentiero Natura in the initial section. The undergrowth and the scents of late autumn and winter will accompany us all the way to Monte Zoccolaro, at an altitude of 1730 m. From there, a stunning panorama will unfold before us. The Valle del Bove and the Summit Craters towering above will be the backdrop to admire during today's hike. From here, we will follow a stretch of the trail that leads to Schiena dell’Asino, then descend through forests of beech, chestnut, and broom, passing by apple and pear orchards. Finally, we will complete our loop by taking a mountain track back to our starting point.

The fee does not include: travel to and from the meeting point.
Meeting point: Thursday, December 26, 2019 – 1st Meeting: 07:00 AM At Bar/Gas Station Lukoil, C/da Coffa, Chiaramonte Gulfi; 2nd Meeting: 09:00 AM in Zafferana Etnea, in front of the Villa Comunale.
End of excursion: 05:00 PM at the same starting point.

Lunch: packed lunch
Loop trail: approximately 5 hours of walking. Forest track, mule track, and both marked and unmarked mountain paths.
Elevation gain: approximately 250 m ascent, 250 m descent.
Travel: own vehicle.
Difficulty: moderate – Suitable for regular hikers.
Required equipment: seasonal trekking clothing, rain jacket (k-way), small backpack, hiking boots, waterproof jacket, hat, 1.5 liters of water.
