Trekking Event at Cava Ispica

January 27th, 2019
Ciao Trekking!!! Once again this year, we are fully committed to our vision of helping you discover and rediscover places both near and far. We want to walk and explore with you, challenge you with new adventures and long trails—in short, do everything we can to share our passion and curiosity. As always, we invite you to explore ev166-1.bmpnature and travel on foot, discovering the benefits and well-being that come with walking. A quick look at the day we will spend together: Cava Ispica has been inhabited since prehistoric times (Neolithic). Due to its unique shape, the canyon served as an excellent shelter from the elements and a defensive stronghold against enemies. The first settlements and the necropolises that dot the limestone walls date back to before 2000 B.C. It remained inhabited and intensely cultivated until the middle of the last century. The largest settlements, featuring rock-cut churches and necropolises from various eras, are located in the northern part. The central area is the least known, partly due to its difficult access; it features numerous interesting groups of Siculian-period tombs and rock complexes such as the Castello.
The venue hosting us for lunch is Rifugio Pernamazzoni, located inside Cava Ispica. It is a rural structure completely immersed in the powerful nature of the canyon. Set in a rural landscape between nature and archaeology, it is the perfect spot for a day of hiking.
