A Dip in the "Cassibile" - SR

On hot August Sundays, plunging into the cool waters of the Cavagrande del Cassibile river offers the body a fantastic sensory thrill. A hike across the Iblei plateau, surrounded by typical Mediterranean plants (olive and carob trees), will lead us to a beautiful panoramic viewpoint. We will look out over the landscape, enjoying the view below and the wonderful "conche" (natural pools) of the laghetti d’Avola. We will have the chance to talk about the passage of man through this land and the traces he has left behind. Even today, centuries later, we enjoy testimonies that are deeply tied to the territory, enriching it with history, culture, and traditions. We will descend along a path that runs alongside the cliff, where the view of the sea completes this wonderful natural "painting." The season is perfect for river trekking within the river itself: we will be completely "immersed" in the valley floor. Today's route winds through this scenery just described, and finally, via a path, we will complete a loop and return to the starting point.

Meeting point: Sunday 08/05/2018 at 09:15 AM along the S.S. 287 Palazzolo Acreide/Siracusa at the Esso gas station, coming from Palazzolo before the entrance to the La Trota restaurant.
End of excursion: Sunday 08/05/2018 at 05:00 PM in Palazzolo Acreide (SR).
Loop trail: approx. 6 hours of walking (including swimming breaks), 250m elevation gain. Path includes rugged areas with brambles and the riverbed.
Travel: own car

Required equipment: trekking clothing, backpack, hiking boots, sun hat, closed-toe water shoes, swimsuit, 1.5 liters of water.
