The Other Side of Casasia (Monterosso Almo)

As autumn arrives, our footsteps and fresh ideas lead us on a full immersion experience at Monte Casasia. These are places of extraordinary beauty, steeped in history and tradition. We will set off from the 'case della passione' (passion houses), located within the forest park, and begin with a short forest trail leading to a panoramic viewpoint—the perfect spot for deep reflection and connecting with nature. We will then continue toward the Licodia dam, an artificial reservoir formed by the damming of the Dirillo river. At 730 meters high, Monte Casasia naturally dominates the final stretch of the Iblei mountains. We will have the chance to 'look out' and admire the entire plain of Gela and the nearby Erei mountains. This is a place of a thousand discoveries, an outpost for territorial control since the earliest dominations in Sicilia to the present day. Here, nature has found a home and preserves its authentic charm, typical of the gentle, rolling Iblei countryside. We will observe firsthand the evidence of human presence dating back to the early Iron Age. We will conclude our day by returning to the refuge, crossing first a gentle hillside path and then a green forest track that, fortunately, remained untouched by last summer's fires.
