Ciaowalk Nature - Wild Herbs Trail - RG
CIAOWALK NATURE
The “Nature Trails” project follows the four seasons, using nature and its paths as a common thread. The idea unfolds through seven themed stages: Oranges, Wild Herbs, Cherry, Wine, Pistachio, Olive Oil, and Chestnuts. These are all products intrinsic to our Mediterranean basin, which play a leading role in our land. We will have the opportunity to savor and enjoy nature, trails, fruits, products, and traditions. Passion, hiking, and nature will make this journey magical.
March 18, 2018 – WILD HERBS TRAIL - RG
Spring is the ideal season in the Iblei to smell the aromas filling the air. We will walk to rediscover wild herbs and the
wonders that our nature offers us.
Cava Volpe – It starts from the Donna Fiorella district and immediately presents a deep gorge that winds towards Santa Rosalia. Currently, part of its territory is covered by vegetation planted through reforestation with conifer varieties, but a good portion is covered by natural vegetation consisting of numerous species. Along the way, it is possible to encounter foxes and wild rabbits, as well as various bird species such as the hooded crow, the jackdaw, the buzzard, and the partridge. There are various canyons that flow into it from the left side as you descend; you can see the remains of abandoned dwellings, some of which were built into the rock shelters. In the past, a good part of the canyon, particularly the valley floor area, was cultivated and inhabited, and these places still feature domestic trees such as walnut, pomegranate, olive, almond, and carob. The canyon extends to the right of the church of S. Rosalia and flows into the Irminio river.
