Three Canyons Trail - RG

A timeless “classic,” an intense and pure trekking experience, a walk filled with smiles & sweat. Today’s steps will take us along a path winding through the heart of the Iblei countryside. We will retrace old, nearly forgotten trails, the ancient *trazzere* (drover's roads) that once divided the large fields within the “Ciuse,” and finally, mule tracks and forest paths. Misericordia, Paradiso, and Chiaramiri are the three *cave* (canyons) of today’s trek, each with its own unique characteristics and varying levels of difficulty. Each one offers profound emotions. For parts of the journey, we will cross landscapes defined by dry-stone walls: the sinuous shapes that plunge into the canyons create cheerful and joyful vistas. We will start from our beloved Cava Misericordia, pass by the Romitorio, and complete a loop, crossing the hills toward Cava Paradiso. The day will also feature a “refreshing” dip in the Mastratto. Passing along a lush mule track that connects Cava Paradiso to Chiaramiri, we will stop for a short break to enjoy a little corner of “Paradise”… This excursion is considered challenging due to the nature of the route itself.

Expenses not included: packed lunch and fuel costs for travel.
Meeting point: Sunday at 08:30 AM, Campo Boario, S.P.10 Ragusa/Chiaramonte Gulfi.
End of excursion: 06:00 PM at the same starting point.
Travel: own car.
Route: 8 hours of walking, approx. 18 km, average elevation changes of 250m descent and 350m ascent – *Regia trazzere*, marked and unmarked trails.
Difficulty: challenging.
Lunch: packed.
Equipment: required: trekking clothing, small backpack, k-way, hiking boots, waterproof jacket, hat, sweater, 2 liters of water.
