Cava Grande del Cassibile - SR

Those Sundays when the body, weary from the heat, finds relief by immersing itself in the cool waters of the Iblei streams; the perfect season for canyoning. We have chosen a perfect, almost magical place: the laghetti d’Avola. We will have the chance to cross and hike up the river, enjoying and soaking in the wonderful pools formed on the riverbed by the long and incessant flow of water. This small, tireless work, together with the air currents rising through the canyon from the sea, has modified and sculpted the Iblei limestone, gifting us today with the characteristic Cavagrande. The presence of perennial water has ensured that dense vegetation clings to the sheer cliffs, making this environment even more pristine—a place from another "time." Our route winds through this scenery, involving a descent and subsequent ascent along one of the walls of the Cava.

Meeting point: Sunday 20/08/2017 at 09:15 AM along the S.S. 287 Palazzolo Acreide/Siracusa, in front of the entrance to the La Trota restaurant.
End of excursion: Sunday 20/08/2017 at 5:00 PM in Palazzolo Acreide (SR).
Loop trail: approx. 6 hours of walking (including swimming breaks), 250m elevation gain. Trail includes rugged areas with brambles and riverbed terrain.
